The Animal Core is a support unit for animal-based research at the Masonic Medical Research Institute (MMRI). Our mission is to provide the best possible veterinary and humane care for the laboratory animal species used by researchers at our Institution. Our highly skilled and dedicated staff monitor the health of our research animals daily and provide care and treatment where needed under the direction of our veterinarian.
We are licensed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH). We hold an assurance with the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) as part of the Public Health Service (PHS) and we are accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International(AAALAC, International).
