Diabetes and Obesity Research at MMRI

Obesity and diabetes have reached epidemic proportions in the United States. According to the CDC, in 2015, 93.3 million adults in the US were considered obese. It is estimated that 25.8 million people in the US are living with diabetes.

Research at MMRI is aimed at dissecting the molecular mechanism regulating cardiac growth. The goal is to advance the field of metabolism and heart development with the treatment of diabetes and obesity related heart disease, at a molecular level.  Current research projects aim to understand the role of fat tissue in controlling obesity by targeting fat tissue and specific protein pathways through the gene therapy approaches.
